I for one will miss that time

Netflix announced recently that it will be the last day we see those red and white envelopes in the mail. They are saying goodbye to their mail-in movies and focusing on streaming. The end of an era — but one I will remember fondly.

I remember when it came around the corner. A video store. OMG. I could rent movies and watch them from my very own living room. As a child that grew up without cable. No HBO, no MTV, we just waited for the Thursday night lineup to enjoy the media. I thought nothing could be better than going down the aisles of the stores and choosing what video I could take home. Then came the DVD. Easier access. Extra footing. This cinema lover was all in.

Watching movies at home was even more fun than in the theater. No teenagers making loud noises, no sticky popcorn on the floor, just sit back on the couch and chill.

Renting movies was what I and my friends did. Ok, I was a city kid — I went to clubs too, but I cherished those nights, renting trashy rom-com with my besties. The new releases before anyone else. And of course, bathroom breaks whenever I needed them.
