I Rescued a Kitten During the Pandemic…they took him away

Desperate to make a connection during lockdown I tried to help a frantic feline

The first time I tried to get a cat during the pandemic was late March. I’m a teacher and a traveler, and most vacations I take off and it never felt it was the right time to take care of a kitten. But this pandemic would be different. We couldn’t go anywhere. So, I went in my car to the local rescue place hell-bent on fostering one.

The thing was, just about everyone was doing the same. Surely there would be one little kitty cat for me? Due to the virus, only one person could enter the “cat” room at a time. I waited patiently and started daydreaming of the kitten I would foster. It was finally my turn when a young woman with a clipboard looked at me and said,

“We are only doing long-term fosters.”

I moved closer to the cage, excited at the possibility of having a cat in my life when the young girl with the blond hair said,

“ I think you need to go,” and darted her eyes towards the door.

I took a tissue and opened the door and went home. That would be the last time I would enter a public place for a while.
